Directions
- In a stock pot, sauté the onions in olive oil until translucent.
- Add the garlic, stirring for another minute.
- Add the tomatoes, broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder and beans, and bring to a boil.
- Reduce to medium heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes.
- Add the cilantro, salt, pepper and lime juice, and simmer for an additional few minutes.
- Garnish with your favorite toppings.

- Black beans contain at least 8 different flavonoids, giving them great antioxidant potential. They also have a high fiber, folate and protein content.
- In a U.S. Department of Agriculture study, researchers measured the antioxidant capacities of more than 100 common foods. Three types of beans made the top four: small red beans, red kidney beans and pinto beans. Three more beans, black beans, navy beans and black-eyed peas, were among the top 40.
